Elder Women's Network
When the grandmothers speak, the earth will heal.
-Hopi prophecy
Many women are entering their sixties, seventies and eighties with better health, higher levels of education, and greater work experience than ever before. We have choices our mothers and grandmothers never dreamed of. We are now asking ourselves how we want to live our remaining years. We have lived purposeful lives and want meaningful action to continue to have a central place in our life, but we do not want to go to more meetings or form new organizations. We want to focus our energy, joining together in community to lend our voices and actions to what we love and value as we also attend to our inner life. Our hope is that elder women will find community and support for their spiritual journeys as they work on behalf of their deepest concerns. In these challenging and perilous times, it is the task of the elder woman to provide vision and guidance for the future and not collapse in despair.
Anita McLeod, who leads the Elder Women’s Network, encourages elder women to be a force for peace and justice in the world. She is a former member of the Board of RCWMS and is available to lead council/circle workshops. Anyone who wants to learn the council process can gather a small group and contact RCWMS.
